The up and over garage door — also called a tilt-up or canopy door — is a single rigid panel that pivots on side arms, swinging outward and then lifting to park horizontally beneath the ceiling. It is the most economical garage door type and remains popular in residential and light commercial markets for its simplicity, fewer moving parts, and lower cost compared to multi-panel sectional doors.

RAX manufactures up and over garage doors to any opening size, using galvanized steel sheet (0.4–1.5 mm) or aluminum 6063-T5 with optional PU foam insulation (40–50 mm). The pivot-arm mechanism uses spring-assisted counterbalancing for smooth manual operation, with electric automation available. Two configurations are offered: Canopy (the bottom third protrudes outward when open, requiring 1,000–1,500 mm front clearance) and Retractable (the panel slides fully inside the garage, requiring no external clearance). Full RAL color and wood-grain finishes are available.

Up and over doors are best suited for residential detached garages, workshops, and light commercial buildings where cost efficiency and mechanical simplicity are priorities. They are not recommended for spaces with limited front clearance (Canopy type) or where maximum insulation and sealing are required (sectional doors outperform in those areas).

Canopy Type

The bottom third of the panel protrudes outward when open. Requires 1,000–1,500 mm front clearance. Best for garages with ample driveway space. Maximum width typically 2,400 mm (8 ft). Simpler mechanism, lower cost.

Retractable Type

The entire panel slides horizontally inside the garage ceiling. Requires no external clearance. Supports wider openings (up to 5,000 mm) and heavier panels. Ideal for short driveways or where the door opens directly onto a walkway.
