Who We Build For

Industrial Doors Engineered for EPC Contractors & Automation Integrators

A large industrial door fails you in four ways: the opening is too big or too non-standard for a catalog product, it cannot hold its wind class at full span, it corrodes in washdown or marine service, or it lacks the fire, ATEX or technical drawing documentation your project needs to close out. As a pure manufacturer, RAX engineers the door, the drive and the spare parts under one roof – tested from −30°C cold storage to +50°C desert – and ships full foundation loads, English manuals and wiring diagrams so your local team installs with confidence. Large industrial doors start from prototype to full production runs: any size, any spec, custom engineered to your specification.

EPC Contractors

You need one-stop sourcing and complete documentation to close out a package. We supply CE docs (EN 13241), installation guides, wiring diagrams and foundation/track loads – doors, openers and parts from a single factory.

Automation Integrators

Automated lines need doors that talk to the control system. Servo VFD drive with radar/geomagnetic/light-curtain sensing and WiFi/RS485 connectivity integrates with conveyors, robotic cells and building management.

Heavy Industry & Mining

Forklift impact, dust and abrasion destroy rigid doors. Rubber impactable and breakaway models deflect and re-set, cutting the downtime and panel damage that rigid doors incur on busy traffic faces.

Hangar & Large-Span Buyers

Very large openings need real engineering, not a stretched catalog panel. Sliding and bi-fold hangar doors and fabric megadoors are built to your span – any size, fully engineered to your specification – with the structural data to back it.

Applicable Standards

The Standards Behind a Compliant Industrial Door

A credible large-door specification names the standards it meets – and what each one actually covers. This is the difference between a declared, test-backed class and a vague marketing label, and it is exactly the documentation an EPC package needs to close out. The following are the European standards that govern industrial doors.

EN 13241

Product standard for industrial, commercial & garage doors

The umbrella CE product standard, covering mechanical safety (manual operating effort, strength, declared durability cycles), powered-door safety (crush/shear/entrapment, controlled forces), EMC, water penetration, wind pressure resistance (EN 12424), thermal resistance / U-value (EN 12428) and air permeability (EN 12427/12426). CE conformity uses initial type assessment plus factory production control, with technical documentation retained 10 years. It excludes fire and smoke behaviour, which route to EN 16034.

EN 12453

Safety in use of power-operated doors

Defines operating-force limits and entrapment protection for motorized doors, referenced by EN 13241. With EN 12978 (protective devices such as safety edges and photocells), it is the basis for limiting crush and shear risk on a powered industrial door. RAX cites CE to EN 13241 and EN 12453.

EN 12424 / EN 12444

Wind load resistance – classification & test

Classifies wind load resistance on a Class 0-5 scale and provides the test / calculation method. Class 0 means no declared performance; Class 5 (above 1000 Pa) is exceptional and agreed by special arrangement. On large doors the achievable class falls as span grows, so the class must be verified at the full opening width. Pressure values are summarized below.

EN 1634-1

Fire resistance test for door & shutter assemblies

The fire test method. Integrity (E) failure includes cotton-pad ignition, sustained back-face flame >10 s, or gauge penetration of cracks. Insulation (I) limits the average back-face temperature rise to ≤140 °C (I₁: all points ≤180 °C; I₂: frame ≤360 °C, other points ≤180 °C). Radiation (W) is evaluated once the back face reaches ≥300 °C. The standard time-temperature curve is T = 345·log₁₀(8t+1) + 20.

EN 16034

Fire & smoke-resisting doors and shutters

The product standard for fire and/or smoke-resisting door and shutter assemblies. Because EN 13241 excludes fire and smoke, EN 16034 is the route to CE-marking fire performance and is used together with EN 13241.

EN 13501-2

Fire classification of construction products

Produces the fire classification label (for example EI₁ 60 or EI₂ 120, in minutes) from EN 1634 test data. A “fire-rated” industrial door should carry both the EN 1634-1 test report and the EN 13501-2 classification – not just a marketing label.

EN 12428 / 12427 / 12426

Thermal resistance & air permeability

EN 12428 sets the thermal-resistance (U-value) calculation for doors; EN 12427 is the air-permeability test method and EN 12426 the air-permeability classification. These are the referenced methods behind the insulation and draught performance declared under EN 13241 – important for cold storage and energy compliance.

ATEX 2014/34/EU

Equipment for potentially explosive atmospheres

Governs equipment intended for explosive atmospheres (with workplace rules under 1999/92/EC): Group I (mining) and Group II (surface industries); gas zones 0/1/2 and dust zones 20/21/22; Category 2/3 conformity routes; marking carries the “Ex” symbol plus “CE”. For an explosion-proof door, RAX supplies an explosion-proof motor marked Ex d IIB T4 (flameproof enclosure, gas group IIB, temperature class T4). Note: an Ex-rated motor is a component specification – a whole-door ATEX assembly certification to a specific zone and category is a separate matter, confirmed per project rather than over-claimed.

EN 12424 Wind Load Classes – Pressure Values (Pa)

Reference pressure values per EN 12424 as cited within EN 13241 documentation. Classes run 0-5; the table shows the commonly referenced design / test / failure / calculation values for Classes 0-3, with Class 5 above 1000 Pa.

ClassDesign (Pa)Test (Pa)Failure (Pa)Calculation (Pa)
Class 0≤ 300330≥ 415450
Class 1≤ 450495≥ 620675
Class 2≤ 700770≥ 9651050
Class 3≤ 10001100≥ 13751500
Class 5Above 1000 Pa – exceptional, by special agreement

RAX markets “Wind Load Class 5 Certified” on this EN 12424 0-5 scale. (This is distinct from RAX’s proprietary spiral high-speed door “Class 12” scale, which applies to a different product family and is not used for these industrial doors.) For large-span doors the certified class must be confirmed at the full opening width by the wind load test report.

Buyer Guide

How to Specify a Custom Industrial Door

Work through these eight points and you will have everything our engineers need to return a proposal, technical layout, foundation loads and the correct EN-class documentation – usually within one working day.

Opening Size & Span

Give the clear structural opening width × height, available headroom and side room, and any crane or track constraints. We build to any span from prototype to full production runs (custom engineered to your specification); hangar spans range from small (<30 m) to very large openings.

Door Type Selection

Match the mechanism to the job: sliding or folding for wide factory bays, fabric megadoor for very large spans, sliding/bi-fold for hangars, rubber impactable for forklift traffic, fire or explosion-proof for compliance.

Wind Load at Full Span

Tell us the site exposure and design wind pressure. We select the EN 12424 wind class (0-5) and confirm it holds at the full opening width – the class falls as span grows, so wide doors need mullions and wind braces.

Fire Rating

If the door forms part of a fire compartment, specify the required EI class and duration (e.g. EI₂ 60 / 120). We provide the EN 1634-1 test report and EN 13501-2 classification – not just a label.

ATEX Zone & Category

For explosive atmospheres, identify the gas zone (0/1/2) or dust zone (20/21/22) and category. We clarify precisely what is certified – our Ex d IIB T4 motor is a component spec; whole-door assembly scope is confirmed per project.

Environment & Material

Define corrosion and hygiene needs: stainless grade 304 vs 316 (chloride / CIP), washdown, marine exposure, or cold storage down to −30°C. We select the substrate and seals to match.

Duty & Speed

State traffic frequency and required operating speed. Heavy steel and hangar doors run slowly (~0.1-0.2 m/s) due to mass; high-cycle traffic doors use faster servo drives, validated to 100,000 cycles.

Foundation & Track Loads

For hangar and megadoor installations, we provide foundation and track load data plus technical drawings so your civil team can design the supporting structure correctly.

Buyer FAQ

Custom Industrial Doors – Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum order quantity for a custom industrial door?

One unit. RAX operates an Any Size, Any Spec — Deep Customization policy: large industrial and hangar doors are engineered to your exact opening, specification and RAL color from prototype to full production runs, with full project flexibility from prototype to container-load. This is ideal for one-off large-span openings, prototypes and EPC packages.

How large an opening can you build for?

We engineer to your span – any size, fully engineered to your specification. For context, aircraft hangar openings are commonly classed from small (under 30 m) to XXL (over 120 m), and vertical-lifting fabric megadoors are used for very large openings where a rigid door is impractical. We provide the structural data, foundation and track loads, for each project rather than publishing a single fixed maximum.

What wind load class do your industrial doors meet?

Wind load resistance is classified to EN 12424 / EN 12444 on a Class 0-5 scale, where Class 0 means no declared performance and Class 5 is above 1000 Pa (by special agreement). RAX markets “Wind Load Class 5 Certified” on this EN 12424 scale – distinct from our proprietary spiral high-speed door “Class 12” scale, which applies to a separate product family. Critically, the achievable class falls as span grows, so we confirm the certified class at your full opening width with the wind load test report.

Is your explosion-proof industrial door ATEX certified for the whole assembly?

Precision matters here. RAX explosion-proof doors are fitted with an explosion-proof motor marked Ex d IIB T4 (flameproof enclosure, gas group IIB, temperature class T4). That is a component (motor) specification under ATEX 2014/34/EU. A whole-door ATEX assembly certification to a specific zone (gas 0/1/2, dust 20/21/22) and category is a separate matter – we confirm the exact scope for your zone and category on the project rather than over-claiming an assembly certificate.

Do you supply fire-rated industrial doors with real certification?

Yes. Fire resistance is tested to EN 1634-1 and classified to EN 13501-2 (for example EI₁/EI₂ 60 or 120, in minutes). RAX offers fire-rated capability at EI60 / EI120. Because EN 13241 excludes fire and smoke, fire performance routes through EN 16034 – and a credible fire door carries both the EN 1634-1 test report and the EN 13501-2 classification, not just a “fire-rated” label. We supply that documentation per model.

Which stainless grade should I specify – 304 or 316?

Grade 304 (~18% Cr / 8% Ni) is the general food-grade choice for breweries, dairy and standard washdown. Grade 316 adds 2-3% molybdenum for chloride resistance, so it is specified for seafood, salt, pool, chemical and high-salt marine environments. Stainless withstands CIP cleaning at roughly 80-90 °C. Tell us your environment and we select the grade – RAX offers both 304 and 316.

What is the lead time and warranty?

Sample 7-15 days; standard container 12-20 days; custom first order 20-35 days and repeat orders 15-20 days. Warranty is 2 years on the door body, 3 years on the operator/motor and 5 years on the servo motor, with free spare parts within warranty shipped DHL/FedEx in 5-7 days. Tooling records are archived up to 5 years with no extra tooling fee for repeat orders.

Do you install the doors on site?

No. RAX is a pure manufacturer and does not provide on-site installation. Every order ships with English installation manuals, installation guides, wiring diagrams and foundation/track load data so your local team can install confidently. We support FOB Tianjin/Qingdao with FCL and LCL shipping.
