01 · Overview

Impactable Dock Door at a Glance

The RAX Impactable Dock Door is a heavy-duty sectional overhead door engineered specifically for high-traffic loading dock openings where forklift impact is a daily reality. Unlike standard sectional doors that sustain costly damage when a forklift strikes the panel or seal, the impactable design features a breakaway seal system — the bottom and side panels flex outward on contact, absorbing the collision energy, then automatically return to their sealed position. This protects both the door and the forklift, eliminating the most common cause of dock-door downtime in distribution centers and cross-dock hubs.

In busy warehouses, a single fork-on-door collision can tear a standard door off its tracks, rupture seals, and halt operations for hours while repairs are arranged. [ESTIMATE] Industry experience shows that high-traffic docks averaging 200+ forklift cycles per day can expect at least one minor door impact per week, making impactable doors the standard specification at major 3PL and parcel-sort facilities. RAX manufactures the Impactable Dock Door to your exact opening dimensions, tested against a rigorous 100,000-cycle fatigue protocol in our in-house lab, and ships it as a complete install-ready package with English manuals for your local team.

02 · Key Features

Key Features & Benefits

Breakaway Seal System

Bottom panel and side seals are designed to flex outward on forklift impact and snap back into position — no track damage, no manual reset. Reduces dock-door downtime from the most common collision type.

100,000-Cycle Durability

Every Impactable Dock Door is validated against our 100,000-cycle fatigue testing protocol — simulating years of high-frequency dock operation — before it leaves the factory.

Insulated or Single-Skin Panels

Choose PU foam-insulated panels (40–50 mm core) for temperature-controlled docks, or galvanized single-skin panels for ambient warehouses. Both configurations use the same breakaway track system.

Servo VFD Drive

Smooth, variable-frequency servo motor control with soft-start/soft-stop reduces mechanical shock to the track and panels — extending service life at high cycle counts.

Full Safety Suite

Anti-pinch safety edge on the bottom bar, air-bag bottom sensor, and optional light-curtain or radar detection to prevent the door from closing on a forklift or pedestrian.

Install-Ready Package

English installation manual + wiring diagrams; operators pre-set and cycle-tested before dispatch. FOB Tianjin or Qingdao.

04 · Structure & Materials

Material Selection Guide

Choosing the right panel and hardware material depends on your dock environment, duty cycle, and local climate:

Galvanized Steel (0.4–1.5 mm)

The default choice for most warehouse docks. Excellent strength-to-cost ratio, corrosion-resistant zinc coating handles most temperate climates. Available in 0.4–0.6 mm skins for insulated panels or up to 1.5 mm for heavy-duty single-skin configurations.

Aluminum Alloy 6063-T5

Recommended for coastal installations, cold-storage facilities (where condensation is constant), or food-processing docks requiring frequent washdown. Lighter weight reduces track wear at high cycle counts.

Stainless Steel 304 / 316

For aggressive environments: chemical storage docks, marine ports, or food/pharma facilities where hygiene compliance demands non-reactive surfaces. 316 grade for chloride/salt exposure.

PU Foam Insulated (40–50 mm)

For temperature-controlled docks, cold-chain facilities, and energy-compliant buildings. The foam core provides thermal separation and structural rigidity. Industry-typical U-value for 50 mm PU panels is in the 0.33–0.45 W/m²K range [ESTIMATE].

What is an impactable dock door and how does it differ from a standard sectional door?

An impactable (breakaway) dock door is a sectional overhead door designed for loading dock openings where forklift impact is frequent. Unlike a standard sectional door that can be derailed or torn off its tracks when struck, the impactable door features a breakaway seal system — the bottom panel and side seals flex outward on contact, absorbing the collision, then automatically return to their sealed position. This eliminates the most common cause of dock-door downtime in high-traffic distribution centers.

What sizes can the Impactable Dock Door be made in?

Any opening size within structural feasibility — large industrial doors from 1 unit, no MOQ. Share your opening width × height, headroom, and side room (or site photos) and our engineers confirm the feasible span and produce a technical proposal.

Can the Impactable Dock Door be used in cold-storage or frozen-food docks?

Yes. RAX offers a cold-chain impactable configuration with 50 mm PU foam panels and silicone rubber breakaway seals rated for −30°C operation. This is typically paired with inflatable dock shelters and under-leveler seals to create a complete cold-chain dock envelope that minimizes air leakage and frost buildup.
