Anti-Drop Sectional Door — RAX Door Technology
01 · Overview

Anti-Drop Sectional Door at a Glance

The Anti Drop Sectional Door incorporates a spring-breakage safety device that instantly locks the door in position if a torsion spring fractures — preventing uncontrolled free-fall of the door curtain. This is a critical safety requirement for doors over pedestrian routes, loading bays with workers below, and any installation where a falling door could cause injury or damage. The anti-drop mechanism is a core requirement of EN 12604 (mechanical aspects) and EN 12453 (power-operated safety).

RAX fits anti-drop devices as standard on industrial-grade sectional doors. The mechanism engages automatically when spring tension is lost, gripping the track to arrest the door within millimeters. Combined with finger-safe panel joints, bottom-edge sensors and EN 12453-compliant force limiting on the operator, this provides comprehensive protection against all identified sectional-door hazards. Doors use 40–50 mm PU foam panels with galvanized steel skins (0.4–1.5 mm) and are validated in RAX’s 100,000-cycle fatigue lab.

How to Specify (Buyer Guide)

1. Risk Assessment

Identify whether the door is above pedestrian routes, workstations or vehicle routes. Anti-drop devices are essential wherever a free-falling door could strike people or equipment below.

2. Anti-Drop Mechanism

RAX fits spring-breakage locks that engage automatically on loss of spring tension. For heavy or high doors, specify dual-spring configuration for redundancy — if one spring fails, the other still supports the door while the anti-drop lock engages.

3. Complementary Safety

Combine anti-drop with: finger-safe panel joints (EN 12453/12604), bottom-edge air-bag or photoelectric sensor, and operator force limiting. This addresses all identified sectional-door hazards.

4. Maintenance Access

Anti-drop devices require periodic inspection. RAX provides maintenance instructions in the English manual and includes the device in the 100,000-cycle fatigue validation.

05 · Customization

OEM / ODM & Customization

RAX supports full private-label production of the Anti-Drop Sectional Door: custom RAL panel colors, operator matching, packaging printing and installation-manual translation (EN/ES/FR/AR/RU). Start with an OEM sample and scale to container-load branded production. Custom molds, Tooling records are archived for up to 5 years — no extra tooling fee on repeat orders, all under strict NDA.

06 · Compliance

Applicable Standards

EN 12604

Mechanical aspects — requires protection against uncontrolled door movement (spring failure, cable breakage). Anti-drop devices are the primary compliance solution for torsion-spring doors.

EN 12453

Power-operated door safety — force limits, entrapment protection, stopping behaviour. Complements the mechanical anti-drop device.

EN 13241

Product standard incorporating both mechanical and power-operated safety requirements as part of CE marking.

What does an anti-drop device do?

It instantly locks the door in position if a torsion spring fractures, preventing uncontrolled free-fall. The mechanism engages automatically when spring tension is lost, gripping the track to arrest the door within millimeters.

Is an anti-drop device required by standard?

EN 12604 (mechanical aspects for doors/gates) requires protection against uncontrolled movement due to spring or cable failure. For power-operated doors, EN 12453 adds force-limiting and entrapment requirements. Together they form the safety basis for CE marking under EN 13241.

Can I get dual springs for extra safety?

Yes — RAX offers dual-spring (or multi-spring) configuration for heavy or high-traffic doors. If one spring fails, the remaining spring still supports the door while the anti-drop lock engages. This provides redundancy for critical applications.

Does the anti-drop device need maintenance?

Periodic visual inspection is recommended (included in the English maintenance manual). The device is validated as part of RAX’s 100,000-cycle fatigue test protocol, ensuring long-term reliability.

Do you provide installation?

No — pure manufacturer. Ships with English manual, wiring diagrams. Anti-drop device pre-fitted and tested before dispatch.

What is the warranty?

Door body 2 years, operator 3 years (servo 5 years). Free spare parts within warranty, DHL/FedEx 5–7 days.
