01 · Overview

Why Buyers Specify This Door

One idea: an opening that stays open in normal use and becomes a rated fire barrier the moment the alarm triggers — without a swinging leaf that blocks aisles or a fixed wall that kills the floor plan.

A fire rated roller shutter door is an active compartmentation barrier. It parks overhead out of the way during daily operation, then descends automatically on a fire-alarm signal or on power loss to close the opening and hold back fire and hot gases between two compartments. Because it rolls, it suits wide openings where a hinged fire door would be impractical.

RAX manufactures each shutter to your exact opening from interlocking galvanized steel slats, with a gravity fail-safe descent as the default life-safety behaviour. The fire class — EI60 or EI120 — is engineered and confirmed per project against the matching test standard for your installed size and configuration, not sold as a standing off-the-shelf certificate.

Fire rating EI60 / EI120 is a per-project manufacturing capability confirmed against the matching fire-resistance test standard for your configuration; it is not a held stock certificate. Cycle life of 100,000 cycles is validated in the RAX fatigue test lab.

03 · Structure & Materials

What the Door Is Made Of

Validated substrates, processed in-house on a CNC punching / bending centre. No outsourcing of the structural parts.

Curtain

Interlocking Steel Slats

Galvanized steel slats (0.4–1.5 mm) that interlock into a rigid, fire-resisting curtain.

Barrel

Galvanized Steel Roller

Sized to the opening span and curtain weight, concealed in the housing box above the opening.

Guides

Steel Guide Channels

Galvanized steel guides, RAL colour-matched; stainless 304 / 316 for coastal or washdown sites.

Fail-Safe

Gravity Descent Mechanism

Releases the curtain to close under gravity on alarm or power loss — no manual intervention needed.

Control

Fire-Alarm Interface Panel

Pre-wired for detectors and alarm panels; optional RS485 / BMS status feedback.

Finish

RAL Powder Coating

Batch-consistent RAL colour on slats, guides and housing to match surrounding finishes.

04 · Applications

Where It Performs Best

Wide openings that must stay open in daily use yet close into a rated barrier on alarm.

Warehouse

Fire Compartments

Separate large warehouse volumes into code-sized compartments without losing aisle width.

Parking

Car Parks & Basements

Close vehicle openings between fire zones while staying clear of traffic in normal use.

Industry

Plant & Process Rooms

Isolate high-risk process areas, transformer rooms and storage from production floors.

Retail

Malls & Open-Plan Spaces

Protect wide retail and atrium openings that a hinged fire door cannot cover.

What does the EI60 / EI120 fire rating mean?

EI is a fire-resistance classification: E stands for integrity (resisting flame and hot-gas passage) and I for insulation (limiting the temperature rise on the unexposed face). The number is the duration in minutes, so EI60 holds both criteria for 60 minutes and EI120 for 120. RAX offers EI60 and EI120 as a manufacturing capability — the specific class for your project is confirmed against the matching fire-resistance test standard for your installed size and configuration.

What happens to the shutter if power is lost?

The shutter uses gravity fail-safe descent as standard: it releases and closes automatically on a fire-alarm signal or on power loss, with no manual intervention. An optional battery or UPS backup provides a controlled descent where a gravity-only drop is not suitable. This is the core life-safety behaviour fire contractors expect from a compartmentation shutter.

Can it integrate with our existing fire-alarm system?

Yes. The control panel interfaces with standard fire-alarm panels, smoke and heat detectors and building management systems. It is pre-wired and function-tested before dispatch, with wiring diagrams included in the document set. Optional RS485 communication adds remote status feedback and monitoring.

Can you build it to my exact opening size?

Yes. Every shutter is engineered to your clear opening width and height, or from site photos. Every order is custom-manufactured, so you can buy a single shutter built to a non-standard size, in any RAL colour. Our engineers confirm the feasible span and produce a technical proposal for approval before production.

Which certifications do you hold for this shutter?

RAX holds ISO 9001:2015, CE marking against EN 13241 (industrial door product standard) and EN 12453 (operator safety), plus SGS material reports and Product Liability Insurance. The fire rating (EI60 / EI120) and AS/NZS 4505 / UL counterpart test data are arranged per project, not held as standing certificates.

What is the lead time?

Sample orders run 7–15 days, a standard container 12–20 days, and a custom first order 20–35 days (repeat custom orders 15–20 days). FOB ports are Tianjin and Qingdao; FCL and LCL are both supported.

What documents ship with the shutter?

Every order includes wiring diagrams, an English installation manual, FAI first-article confirmation and pre-assembly photos, a factory inspection report (speed, noise, insulation resistance, visual), the 100,000-cycle fatigue test video/report, and the CE Declaration of Conformity with the EN 13241 test report.
