5 Steps to a Complete Door Specification

Work through these five steps and you will have everything our engineers need to deliver an accurate DFM proposal within 48 hours.

Measure Your Opening

Record the clear opening width x height in millimetres. Then note the headroom available above the opening (distance from lintel to ceiling), the side room for tracks or guides on each side, and the floor condition (flat, sloped, embedded rails).

Tip: Send a photo of the opening with a tape measure visible in the frame. A single smartphone photo saves two rounds of email clarification.

Define the Environment

Indoor or outdoor installation? Record the operating temperature range, relative humidity, and whether dust or cleanroom classification applies (ISO Class 5-8). For exterior doors, note the design wind load (or nearest city so we can look it up). Flag any corrosive chemicals, salt spray or washdown cycles present.

Tip: If the door separates two different climates (e.g. ambient warehouse to -25 C freezer), state both sides – this determines insulation and heating requirements.

Determine Traffic & Speed

Estimate cycles per hour during peak operation. Identify the traffic mix: forklift, pedestrian, truck or a combination. State the required open/close speed (typical high speed doors run 1.5-2.5 m/s). Note whether this door must interlock with other doors, air curtains or production-line equipment.

Tip: If you are unsure about cycle count, tell us the number of vehicles per shift and the shift length – we will calculate it.

Choose Safety & Controls

Select the safety devices required: photo-eye beams, safety bottom edge, radar motion sensor, or inductive loop detector for vehicles. Define control integration needs: PLC/SCADA signals, remote control, pull-cord, fire-alarm linkage (auto-open or auto-close on alarm), or access-control keypad/card reader.

Tip: Tell us your country’s machinery safety standard (CE EN 12453, UL 325, AS/NZS 4505) and we will configure compliance into the control package.

Specify Appearance & Compliance

Choose a RAL color for panels and guides (any RAL available, no surcharge for standard colors). Decide on window panels, vision windows or full-vision sections. Note if logo printing or brand color matching is required. List any certification or code references: CE EN 13241, UL, AS/NZS, local fire code, or building-permit drawings your authority requires.

Tip: Send us your building’s RAL color or a photo of adjacent doors – we will match or complement it at no extra engineering cost.

What Happens After You Submit

Every inquiry enters our DFM (Design for Manufacturability) workflow. Here is the timeline from first email to container loading.

Hour 0 – 48

DFM Proposal

Our engineer reviews your specs, identifies conflicts and proposes the optimal door type plus configuration. You receive a 2-page PDF with recommendation, preliminary technical layout and budget estimate.

Day 3 – 7

Design Confirmation

We finalize technical drawings together via video call. You approve dimensions, color, hardware and control logic. NDA signed if OEM. Final price confirmed on proforma invoice.

Day 7 – 12

Production Start

30% deposit received and production begins. You receive weekly photo and video updates. 100,000-cycle fatigue test at completion before packing.

Day 12 – 35

Delivery

Factory inspection report, CE docs and installation manual shipped with goods. FOB Tianjin/Qingdao. You receive tracking number and container loading photos.

Environment Considerations

Your operating environment drives material selection, motor specification and seal design. Here is how we engineer for the four most demanding conditions.

Extreme Cold (-25 C to -35 C)

Heated frame and guide rails prevent ice build-up. Insulated curtain retains thermal separation. Cold-rated motor oil ensures reliable operation. Condensation management channels protect electronics.

High Humidity / Washdown

Stainless steel hardware resists corrosion. IP65-rated motor withstands direct spray. Food-grade PVC curtain meets hygiene standards. Integrated drainage channels route washdown water away from mechanics.

Dust / Cleanroom (ISO 5-8)

Project Planning FAQ

I only have a rough idea – can you still help?

Yes. Send a photo of the opening and describe what goes through it. We will recommend the right door type and size. Over 60% of our orders start from non-standard openings with minimal initial information – our DFM process is designed for exactly this situation.

Can you match an existing door in my building?

Send photos and measurements. We reverse-engineer the spec and match color, size and mounting pattern. If you have the original manufacturer’s model number, even better – but it is not required. Our engineers work from physical dimensions and photos routinely.

What if my opening isn’t standard?

That is our specialty. custom engineered to your specification, any size, any spec. Non-standard openings account for 60% of our orders. We custom-engineer every door to your exact dimensions – there is no “standard catalog” constraint. See our OEM/ODM page for details on custom engineering.

Do you provide structural calculations?

Yes – wind load, dead load and seismic data are available for engineer sign-off in your country. We provide the calculations in SI units with your local code references where applicable. Ask during DFM review and our engineers will include them in the documentation package.

Can I visit the factory during production?

Video factory tours are available anytime – we will walk the production floor live on WhatsApp or Zoom. In-person visits are welcome: our Cangzhou, Hebei production base is 2 hours from Beijing by high-speed rail. Contact us to arrange a visit.
