Why Buyers Specify This Screen

One idea: contain the arc. A welding screen absorbs and filters the intense UV and infrared radiation of the welding arc so that people working or walking next to the bay are not exposed to arc eye and skin burn — while sparks and spatter stay inside the work area.

An open welding bay radiates far beyond the weld itself. The arc emits ultraviolet and infrared radiation that can cause arc eye (photokeratitis) and skin burns to anyone in line of sight, and throws sparks and molten spatter across the surrounding floor. A welding screen intercepts both: a tinted, flame-retardant PVC panel absorbs the radiation and stops spatter, while still letting supervisors see into the bay and letting fumes and heat rise clear. The result is a safer shop floor, fewer hot-work incidents, and an easy way to bring an open fabrication area into line with workplace hot-work practice.

What does a welding screen actually protect against?

A welding screen intercepts two hazards from the arc: radiation and spatter. The tinted PVC absorbs the ultraviolet and infrared radiation that causes arc eye (photokeratitis) and skin burns to anyone in line of sight, and it stops sparks and molten spatter leaving the bay. It also gives supervisors a filtered view into the bay and lets heat and fumes rise clear, which a solid wall would not.

Which tint colour should I choose?

Bronze, green and red are the common grades, and the choice depends on the welding process and the light level you want in the bay. Darker tints filter more arc glare for high-amperage work; lighter tints keep the surrounding area brighter for general fabrication. Send your welding process (MIG, TIG or stick) and typical amperage and our engineers recommend the right tint grade on the technical layout.

Freestanding, fixed-frame or hanging strip — which format?

Freestanding screens on feet or castors suit bays that change layout often or ad-hoc repair welding. Fixed frames bolted to floor or wall suit permanent, dedicated welding bays. Hanging strip curtains suit large or irregular openings where a rigid panel will not fit, such as wide fabrication halls. We match the format to your bay layout and produce technical drawings for approval.

Do your screens meet EN 1598?

EN 1598 is the applicable European product standard for welding curtains and screens used in arc welding. We build screens to that intent and arrange the matching flame-retardant and radiation test data per project rather than holding it as a standing certificate, so the conformity evidence is specific to your order. Tell us which standard your tender requires and we confirm the test data we can provide.

Which certifications do you hold for this product?
